OPERATIVE LAPAROSCOPY

What is operative laparoscopy?

This is a surgical procedure where, instead of the large incision made for traditional open surgery, Dr Mutanda-Musoke will make small puncture like incision, through which she will insert a tube with a tiny camera. This camera will allow her to view your internal organs while operating. Through other small incisions small tools will be inserted through which she will be able to perform a range of surgeries such as a hysterectomy, oophorectomy, salpingectomy, salpingo-oophorecotmy and the removal of an ectopic pregnancy. Operative laparoscopy is also used to make an accurate diagnosis by getting a look at the internal organs of the reproductive system. Laparoscopic surgery is less invasive than traditional open surgery and allows you to recover quicker with minimal scarring. Due to the benefits of this type of surgery, many traditional surgeries are now be substituted with operative laparoscopy.
